As editor of the Edinburgh Evening News, John McLellan played a key role in the 2005 vote on congestion-charging. Elected last year as Conservative councillor for Craigentinny & Duddingston, he now has an Opposition perspective on the administration’s transport priorities, but continues to pen a weekly column in the Evening News and also contributes to The Scotsman, often writing about transport issues including the tram extension. For 37 years Railtrail Tours based in Leek have been offering escorted rail-based holidays in Britain and Europe using scheduled rail services. Their general manager Rob Carroll will explain the challenges of keeping pace with changing rail operations as high-speed networks expand but overnight trains are cut back. He will also talk about the joys of putting together special holidays such as the Great German Rail Ale Trail and the Big Five Mountain Railroad Adventure.
